The summer heat not only has a great effect on us, but also on our pets. Warm weather can cause your dog to be dehydrated and low on energy. Luckily there are many fun and creative treats that can be made from simple kitchen ingredients that will help your pets stay cool all summer long!
For Dogs
Dogs have many diverse options for summer treats, as they are more commonly exposed to human food and have fewer allergies relating to it. Some great and healthy summer treats for your dogs include:
- Fruit and Peanut Butter Frozen Treats- This is a really easy and refreshing treat for dogs to enjoy in the summer weather. Begin by measuring out one cup of berries. You can choose between strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries depending on what your dog loves the most. From there, you empty the cup of fruit into a blender and add ¼ cup of water. Blend the contents until everything looks mixed together and broken down accordingly. Pour the fruit and water puree into an ice tray and top off each individual treat with a bit of peanut butter and put them in the freezer. Be sure to check the label of your peanut butter and make sure that it does not contain xylitol. Be sure to check your treats and give them to your furry friend when they’re fully frozen.
- Banana and Peanut Butter Pupsicles- In order to make these delicious pupsicles, combine 1 cup of plain yogurt, 1 chopped-up banana, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter into a blender. Blend the ingredients together until you get a smooth texture. After you have achieved a smooth texture, divide the mixture into a few small paper cups and insert safe sticks inside of them. Then freeze them for at least 4 hours and serve to your pup! They will love enjoying these tasty summer treats, especially after playing outside in the summer heat
For Cats
When it comes to cool summer treats for cats, many people don’t know where to begin. Cats have a much more particular diet than dogs, there are, however, many great twists on meals that your cat already loves that will help them cool down in the heat!
- Frozen Tuna Treats- Placing loose tuna on wax sheets and then freezing them for a few hours will create the perfect delicious and cool treat to help your cat beat the heat this summer. Most cats love tuna so adding a cool twist to a favorite snack of theirs will assure you that they will eat it and be cooled down.
- Frozen Wet Food- Many cats love wet food which makes it a perfect treat to freeze and let them have on a hot day. Simply empty the contents of the wet food into a plastic bowl and freeze it. In a few hours, it’ll be ready for your cat to eat!
Keeping your pets cool during the summer is crucial for their health. Dehydrated animals can experience many diverse health issues relating to the heat so finding any way to cool them down is much needed.
